Greg Moore
10 Things you didn’t care to know about Greg Moore.
I was born in December 1971 and raised in Charlotte, NC and I have lived there all my life if you don’t count the years I was away serving in the military. I graduated from Garinger High School in 1990.
- I have three brothers, one older and two younger. My brothers taught me how to fight without doing too much damage to the face where Mom could see it.
- I married my lovely wife Amanda, in May 2003 and we had our first child, Gabriel, in May of 2007. I met Amanda one day when I was hanging around the house in October 1999 feeling sorry for myself because I had a cast on my left leg all the way up to my hip due to surgery on my torn Achilles tendon (basketball injury). I had just traded in my stick-shift VW for an automatic VW (hard to drive a stick with a cast on your left leg) and my neighbor came over to see the new car and brought along her sister-in-law Amanda, who was visiting on break from college. I was smitten the moment I met Amanda and I still am. Amanda is a ballet/tap dance teacher and she runs her own dance program at Robinson Presbyterian Church. (www.RobinsonDance.com)
- Since the military’s already been mentioned: I served two years in the US Army from 1990 to 1992 as a 19D Cavalry Scout (Scout’s OUT!) and that time includes service in Operation Desert Shield/Storm where I drove a Bradley Fighting Vehicle in a lead combat unit (1/1 Cavalry) for the 1st Armored Division. Yes, I saw action and if you want war stories, I have a few. Once I got out of the Army, I joined the N.C. Air National Guard as a Wideband/Satellite Technician until 1999.
- I have had the great opportunity to travel the world on a number of occasions and my list of countries visited includes: Germany (stationed there), France, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, and Egypt, not to mention Canada and Mexico. I also had the great pleasure of visiting Kenya in July 2006 on a mission trip with Sardis Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. I could spend this entire bio talking about that trip, ask me about it sometime.
- I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from UNC Charlotte (1999) where I majored in Industrial and Operations Management. I also have a Master of Business Administration from Montreat College (2005).
- I have a professional career as a manager. I was a Logistics Manager for Ryder Integrated Logistics in Charlotte for six years and a Transportation Manager for Roadway Express for six months before starting my own business, EnduraDeck Inc., a decorative-concrete deck construction firm.
- You might be asking; “where does the music fit in all of this?” Good question. I started playing the alto saxophone in grade 5 and I played alto and baritone saxophone until I graduated from high school. I even won the Senior Band Leader award as a High School senior and I pretty much had the “first chair” in the sax section for all of high school for those of you who know what “first chair” means. I started playing guitar when I turned 16. My parents bought me an acoustic for Christmas and I started teaching myself how to play it, to this day I’ve never taken a formal guitar lesson though I’ve certainly had plenty of folks who I’ve jammed with who’ve taught me probably WAY more than I would have learned by paying for it.
- I grew up a Presbyterian. I can remember we attended St. John Presbyterian Church in Charlotte off of Plaza Rd. for most of my childhood. Then we moved out into the county when I was 15 and started attending Robinson Presbyterian Church where I served as the Contemporary Service Director from 2005 to 2007. I am an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church.
- The most important day of my life would have to be the day I gave my life back over to Christ. I know that most people say either the day they married or their children were born but frankly, without having given myself back over to our Lord’s purpose and will I’m not sure the blessings that followed would be as sweet.
Back in 1999 I had started attending a brand-new contemporary church in Charlotte called Charlotte East Fellowship. I totally dug the service, it was so different from my Presbyterian experience. This church rocked for God and I was soon playing lead guitar for them. Yes, I was playing screaming guitar-solos for God and when I did I could feel shivers going down my back it was SO AWESOME. I met with the Pastors soon after that and we had lunch and right there in the car with the Pastors after lunch on my way back to work I gave my life back over to Christ after many years away from Him. (www.UCfellowship.org)
My service at CEF led me to be called as Contemporary Worship Director for Robinson Presbyterian Church in 2005 and we started a contemporary service there called Robinson Fire! Can you imagine? Presbyterians now rocking for God! We made it our mission to start thawing out the “Frozen Chosen.” (www.RobinsonFire.org)
And now, I get the wonderful opportunity to do it again with Faith Presbyterian Church. The service may not necessarily be “contemporary” or “traditional” and it doesn’t matter, those labels are worn-out and unimportant, as long as we are focused on God’s heart and worship of Him. I can’t wait to be able to worship together with you at Faith Presbyterian Church.
